Considering the human brain is the most complex thing that we know of in the Universe, it only makes sense that its preferences in replication should be complicated as well. Hank Green of Vlogbrothers put together a great explanation of our understanding so far. My biggest take away from this video is that gender identity and sexual orientation are completely separate issues. Of course there is a strong correlation, but not a causation.
