Tip #1 - When asked advice, you need to always begin by opening them up.
Tip #2 - Direct advice is always met with resistence.  People have usually already made up their mind and have chosen the easiest route, but they ask you because they want confimation.  Telling a story first gets them thinking how it all fits together, and they then will question their own pre-set ideas.
Tip #3 - When you tell someone what to do, they fight it.  When you give wisdom, they want to feel like they discovered it and made the best decision on their own.
