Wade Davis: Cultures at the far edge of the world

The central revelation of anthropology.  The world in which we live in does not exist in some absolute sense, but it exists as one model of reality, one consequence of a single particular path of adaptive choices that our lineage made successfully many generations ago.

We all sing, we all dance, we all have art.  But there are always other ways of thinking.  There is no one correct culture.

6000 distinct languages exist (2007) and fully half will be lost within this century.
